Here at Uplift we want to give you easy things you can implement to make your life easier and happier. What gets tracked, gets managed. So here is a quick exercise this week to help you decrease daily stress.
Step 1: For one week, document each time you are stressed and what caused it. What struck me for my list was that 80% were things that could easily be prevented. For example, here was my list:
Not being able to find my keys
Having a fire-drill at work
Not having a conference room booked for a meeting
Running out of power on my phone
Not having snacks for my toddler, leading to total breakdown
Step 2: Come up with simple solutions to prevent regular stressors. For example:
Not being able to find my keys → Buy a key tracker that beeps
Not having a room booked for a meeting → End each day by looking for meetings for the next
Running out of power on my phone → keep an extra power supply in my bag
Not having snacks for my toddler, leading to total breakdown → keep a box of snacks in her stroller or the car, so I don’t run out
Seeing your stressors written down also helps make them feel more manageable and smaller. Try it and share the ideas you come up with to reduce simple stressors!
PS: My daughter's first request to play post-Shonda-pledge was Hide and Seek while I was driving. We figured out how to make it work somehow!
